Effortlessly Connect Line and Curve Segments for Seamless Path Creation
The Auto-Join Selected Shapes feature helps connect ends of lines or curves that are close together or touching but not technically connected. This function simplifies creating continuous paths by merging segments into a single shape.
Where to Find Auto-Join
- Menu Location: Edit → Auto-Join Selected Shapes
- Keyboard Shortcuts:
- Windows: Alt+J
- Mac: Option+J
How Auto-Join Works
The Auto-Join tool connects line or curve segments where the start and end nodes are either directly overlapping or within a small distance (0.05 mm). Once joined, these segments form a single continuous path, which is essential for certain functions requiring closed shapes.
This feature is especially helpful when working with imported graphics containing open shapes that you want to use in operations requiring complete paths.
Using Auto-Join
- Select all the segments you want to connect.
- Navigate to Edit → Auto-Join Selected Shapes, or use the shortcut Alt/Option+J.
If the start and end nodes are within the required 0.05 mm tolerance, the segments will merge into one continuous path.
Troubleshooting Auto-Join
If Auto-Join does not connect segments as expected:
- Go to the Arrange Menu and select Break Apart (shortcut: Alt/Option+B).
- Retry the Auto-Join function.
This additional step can resolve issues caused by certain node configurations or imported shapes.
