Break Apart: Separate Vector Paths

Easily Split Vector Graphics into Individual Segments

The Break Apart tool in LightBurn allows you to separate vector paths into individual curves and lines. This feature is ideal for situations where you need to edit or manipulate each segment of a shape independently.

Where to Find Break Apart

  • Menu Location: Arrange → Break Apart
  • Keyboard Shortcuts:
    • Windows: Alt + B
    • Mac: Option + B

How It Works

When you apply Break Apart to a selected object, it separates the connected paths into individual segments. For example:

  • A rectangle, which is a single path made up of four straight lines connected by four nodes, will be split into four individual lines, each with its own start and end node.

This process disconnects the segments, making each one independently selectable and editable.

Using Break Apart

  1. Select the objects you wish to separate.
  2. Go to Arrange → Break Apart or press Alt / Option + B.
  3. The selected object will be broken into individual lines or curves, allowing for independent manipulation.

Practical Example

Ref-BreakApart-BrokenRectangle

  • Before Breaking Apart: A rectangle is a single, continuous path with one start and end node (typically shown in green).
  • After Breaking Apart: The rectangle becomes four separate lines, each with its own start and end node, resulting in eight nodes in total.

This level of separation allows you to delete, move, or reshape individual segments as needed.

With Break Apart, you can gain precise control over your vector graphics, making it easier to customize and adjust designs for your projects.
