Edge Fiber Laser Not Marking

If your Edge Fiber Laser appears to run but the material is not being engraved, the issue is usually related to laser settings, focus, or communication between LightBurn and the laser controller. This article outlines the most common causes and how to resolve them.

Symptoms

• Red dot pointer visible but no engraving occurs
• Job runs in LightBurn but nothing marks the material
• Machine motion appears normal

Possible Causes

• Power setting too low
• Frequency set incorrectly
• Laser out of focus
• Incorrect lens profile selected
• Communication issue between LightBurn and the controller

Diagnostics

Step 1 — Verify Power Settings
Open the layer settings in LightBurn and confirm that the power level is appropriate. For most metal engraving applications power should be set above 20%.

Step 2 — Check Frequency
Verify that the frequency is set between approximately 30–60 kHz for most metals. Extremely low frequencies can result in little or no marking.

Step 3 — Confirm Proper Focus
Ensure the material is positioned at the correct focal height for the installed lens. When the laser is out of focus the beam spot becomes larger and engraving power decreases.

Step 4 — Run a Test Mark
Create a small square or circle in LightBurn and run a short test engraving to verify the laser is firing.

Step 5 — Restart the System
Restart both LightBurn and the laser system to reset communication with the controller.

Solution

Correct the laser settings and ensure the material is properly focused. Once power, frequency, and focus are verified the laser should engrave normally.

If the laser still does not mark, contact SA Laser technical support to verify the laser source and controller.
