# Deep Engraving Producing Striations

## Striations or directional lines may appear when performing deep engraving. This is usually caused by repeated engraving passes using the same hatch direction.

Symptoms

• Visible directional lines  
• Rough engraved surface  
• Uneven material removal

Possible Causes

• Same hatch angle repeated every pass  
• Hatch spacing too large  
• Removing too much material per pass

Diagnostics

Step 1 — Check Hatch Spacing  
Smaller hatch spacing improves engraving smoothness.

Step 2 — Verify Hatch Angle  
Use different angles between passes.

Step 3 — Enable Auto Rotate  
Auto Rotate distributes engraving angles automatically.

Solution

Enable Auto Rotate and use multiple passes with different hatch angles.

Conclusion

Rotating hatch angles between passes produces smoother deep engravings.
