A Guide to LightBurn's Status Bar Features and Notifications
The Status Bar in LightBurn provides real-time, contextual information about the current tool, selected objects, and the laser's status. It offers valuable insights and instructions to guide you through your laser engraving projects.
Locating the Status Bar
You’ll find the Status Bar in the bottom left-hand corner of the LightBurn window, next to the Transform Control Toggles. The Status Bar provides:
- Cursor Coordinates: The exact position of your mouse pointer within the workspace.
- Tool Status: Information about the active tool or selected objects.
- Notification Area: Displays important messages and updates from LightBurn.
- Modes Indicator: Highlights active special modes, such as Rotary Mode or Cylinder Correction.
Key Features of the Status Bar
Cursor Coordinates
The left side of the Status Bar displays the live X and Y coordinates of the mouse pointer as it moves within the LightBurn workspace. The coordinates pause updating when the cursor leaves the workspace (e.g., when interacting with menus or toolbars).
Tool Status
The Tool Status section, located to the right of the cursor coordinates, provides details about the selected tool or object(s).
Examples:

Selection Tool:
- Message: Min (34.5x, 43.5y) to Max (67.5x, 70.5y), 2 objects
- Meaning: The selection includes two objects within a bounding box from (34.5, 43.5) to (67.5, 70.5).

Draw Lines Tool:
- Message: x: 258.00, y: 66.00 (dx: 239.00, dy: 32.00, len: 241.13)
- Meaning: Shows the cursor's position, travel distance from the line's start point, and the line's length.
Notification Area
The Notification Area, on the right side of the Status Bar, provides updates related to:
- The active tool or process.
- Program notifications and error messages.
- Laser connection status.
Connection Status
The Notification Area also displays the connection status of your laser:
For DSP Devices:
- Not Connected: “No device found.”
- Connected: Displays the laser controller's details and indicates that the device is ready.
For Galvo Devices:
- Not Connected: “Waiting for connection…”
- Connected: Displays the laser controller's details and confirms connection status.
Modes Indicator
The rightmost section of the Status Bar shows the currently active special modes, such as:
- Rotary Mode: For cylindrical objects.
- Print and Cut: For aligning projects with registration marks.
- Cylinder Correction: For marking cylindrical objects without a rotary device.
