Overview Moving LightBurn to Another Computer
This guide explains how to transfer your LightBurn settings, devices, and other data from an existing installation to a new computer. It also covers the manual steps needed for files not included in LightBurn's User Bundles feature.
Prerequisites
Before starting, ensure you have the following:
- An existing LightBurn installation (v1.6 or newer) with your settings configured.
- LightBurn installed on the new computer (v1.6 or newer).
- A method to transfer files between computers (e.g., USB flash drive or cloud storage).
Note:
If you're using an older version of LightBurn, upgrade to version 1.6 or refer to legacy documentation for alternative migration methods.
License Management
Each LightBurn license key supports up to three activations. If you’re no longer using LightBurn on an old computer, deactivate it to free up a seat for the new device. Refer to the License Management Guide for more details.
Migration Overview
The User Bundles feature in LightBurn (introduced in v1.6) simplifies the migration process by exporting and importing:
- LightBurn Settings
- Custom Hotkeys
- Material Test Presets
- Image Presets
- Devices
- Material Libraries
- Art Libraries
Not Included in User Bundles:
- Project Files: Manually copy these to the new computer.
- SHX Fonts Folder: Manually copy and update the font path.
- System Fonts: Managed by your operating system, not LightBurn.
Step 1: Export User Bundles
- Open LightBurn on the old computer.
- Navigate to File → Bundles → Export Bundle.
- Select all components you wish to transfer.
- Save the
.lbzip
file to a location you can easily access (e.g., a USB drive).
Step 2: Import User Bundles on the New Computer
- Transfer the
.lbzip
file to the new computer. - Open LightBurn on the new computer.
- Drag and drop the
.lbzip
file into the LightBurn interface. - Review the components to import:
- Already-detected components will be grayed out.
- Conflicting devices will create duplicates.
- Libraries with the same name but different contents will generate new copies.
- Click Import to complete the process.
Step 3: Transfer Project Files
LightBurn does not manage project files. Manually copy any files you need to the new computer. Use a USB drive, external storage, or cloud services for this step.
Step 4: Transfer SHX Fonts
- Copy the SHX Fonts folder from the old computer to the new computer.
- If fonts are not recognized, update the SHX Font Path in LightBurn's settings:
- Navigate to Edit → Settings and update the SHX Font directory.
