Simple, Bending, and Text on Path in LightBurn

Introduction

In this chapter, we will cover how to create simple text, bend text, and apply text to a path using LightBurn.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Creating Simple Text

To start, make sure the LightBurn software is open on your computer and your galvo fiber laser system is properly connected. In LightBurn, navigate to the toolbar and select the Text tool. Click on the workspace where you want to place the text. Type the desired text in the input field that appears. Adjust the font size, alignment, and other text properties using the options in the font toolbar. Position and resize the text as desired using the selection handles.

Step 2: Bending Text

For bending text, start a new workspace by clicking New in the File menu, which will clear any current project and create a new one. You can also press Ctrl + N if you're using a PC or Command + N if you're using a Mac. Select the text as we did in simple text. Locate the blue dot tool and hover over it. A bend handle will appear on the cursor. Click and drag the blue dot to bend the text to the desired curve or angle. Experiment with the bend handle to achieve the desired curvature or angle for the text.

Step 3: Apply Text to a Path

Create or import a shape or path in LightBurn that you want the text to follow. If you create a shape using the creation tools, right-click on the shape and select Convert to Path or use the hotkeys Ctrl + Shift + C. Select both the path and the text you want to apply. Right-click on one of the selected items and select Apply Path to Text. LightBurn will align and fit the text to the shape path you selected based on your align X and align Y positions in the font toolbar. Adjust the size, position, and other properties of the text as needed. You can move the text along the path by clicking the text tool, then clicking on the text. Use the space bar to move the text forward or the backspace to move the text backwards.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You've learned how to create simple text, bend text, and apply text to a path using LightBurn software. These techniques help you create customized designs and artwork for your laser engraving projects. Happy engraving!
