Guide to Find and Load Settings into the LightBurn Material Library

Step 1: Access the Material Library

  1. Open LightBurn Software.
  2. Make sure the Library window is visible. By default, it might be behind the Laser
    • If you don't see it, go to the top menu and select Window → Library.

Step 2: Load an Existing Material Library

  1. In the Library window, click the Load
    • This will open a dialog box where you can browse for saved material libraries.
  2. Find the material library file you want to use, and click Open.
  3. The selected file will become the active material library for your session.

Step 3: Assign or Link Presets from the Library to a Layer

  1. Select the layer in your project that you want to apply a preset to.
  2. In the Material Library, locate the preset you want to use.
  3. Click either:
    • Assign: This will apply the preset settings to the layer, but any future changes to the preset will not affect this layer.
    • Link: This will create a live connection between the layer and the preset, meaning any changes to the preset will automatically update the layer.

Step 4: Add New Settings to the Material Library

  1. Create or select an existing cut layer in your project.
  2. In the Library window, click Create new from Layer.
    • This will open a detail sheet for entering the material’s information.
  3. Fill out the details:
    • Material Name: The name of the material (e.g., Wood, Acrylic).
    • Thickness: Enter the thickness of the material if it's relevant.
    • Title and Description: Add any relevant information to help identify the preset.
  4. Click Save to add the preset to your library.

Step 5: Modify Existing Presets

  1. In the Library window, select the preset you want to modify.
  2. Click Edit Cut to change the cut settings, or Edit Description to change the material name, thickness, or description.
  3. After making your changes, the preset will be updated.

Step 6: Delete Settings from the Material Library

  1. In the Library window, select the preset you wish to delete.
  2. Click Delete on the right side of the window to remove the preset from your library.

Step 7: Save and Manage Libraries

  • To save the current library with updates, click Save.
  • To save a duplicate or create a new library, click Save As or New in the lower-right corner of the Library
 and you won't be able to modify the layer cut setting in the Cut Settings Editor unless you unlink the layer.
    • To unlink the layer, click the Unlink button at the bottom of the Cuts and Layers window.
