Transform Objects Non-Linearly with Warp and Deform Tools
The Warp Selection and Deform Selection tools in LightBurn allow you to stretch, shape, and distort objects non-linearly by manipulating drag handles. These tools enable creative transformations for text, shapes, and objects, enhancing their appearance with perspective adjustments, contour fitting, and organic distortions.
Where to Find Warp and Deform
- Warp Selection: Tools → Warp Selection
- Deform Selection: Tools → Deform Selection
How It Works
Both tools use drag handles placed either:
- Around the perimeter of the selection (Warp Selection)
- On a grid overlaying the selection (Deform Selection)
By dragging these handles, you can reshape objects dynamically.
Using Warp or Deform
- Select Objects: Highlight the objects you wish to edit.
- Access the Tool: Choose Warp Selection or Deform Selection from the Tools Menu.
- Adjust with Handles:
- Drag handles to reshape the object.
- Double-click a handle to reset it.
- Hold Shift while dragging to maintain horizontal symmetry.
- Hold Alt/Option while dragging to maintain vertical symmetry.
Warp Selection
Warp Selection focuses on stretching and compressing objects relative to their rectangular perimeter. Drag the handles at the four corners to:
- Apply Perspective Effects: Adjust the perceived perspective of objects.
- Stretch or Compress Corners: Create unique distortions.
- Create Dramatic Text Effects: Stylize text for creative projects.
Deform Selection
Deform Selection provides finer control by overlaying a grid with 16 drag handles on the object. Dragging these handles distorts the object in a more organic way. Use Deform Selection to:
- Fit Text to Shapes: Align text to match the contours of another object.
- Fit Objects to Contours: Shape an object to follow the lines of another.
- Create Organic Shapes: Experiment with creative distortions for unique designs.
Tips for Effective Use
- Symmetry Controls: Use Shift and Alt/Option keys for symmetrical adjustments.
- Reset Handles: Double-click handles to undo specific changes.
